Take Part in the “2008 Minutes of Floorball” Marathon!

• The floorball event of the decade in the Czech Republic is virtually just round the corner. The World Floorball Championship will start in Ostrava on 6th December already, but exactly two weeks before the tournament there is a chance for all floorball fans to significantly personally contribute to promotion of the World Championship! Will you join the organizers and try with us to play in a marathon of “2008 Minutes of Floorball” to support the WFC 2008? The exceptional floorball non-stop match will start on Friday, 21st November in the morning in the sports complex Hamr Braník in Prague, and if we can make it together, it will end after 33 hours and 28 minutes on Saturday, 22nd November in the evening at the same place!

The longest floorball marathon so far was played in Switzerland and lasted exactly 24 hours, so the Czech floorball has a chance to improve the world record by almost half a day! An attempt to break the world record in attendance of the World Floorball Championship is already registered with the well-known agency Dobrý den from Pelhřimov. To break the record it is necessary to achieve the attendance of at least 15 107 spectators in O2 Aréna on one of the final days. Nevertheless, in case the public is interested in the “2008 Minutes of Floorball” marathon, it is even possible to contact the agency before the World Championship!

However, the main goal of the “2008 Minutes of Floorball” event is an effort to raise interest of the Czech public in the forthcoming WFC 2008 in December and to show that floorball really is a sport for everyone. Therefore, we would like anyone interested to get involved in the floorball marathon — be it men, women, children, seniors, handicapped people, celebrities, politicians, or journalists. The opening face-off of the floorball transmission should appear live on Czech TV and TV Nova on Friday morning and during the event there are planned further live TV news reports. Actors and singers from the WFC 2008 supporting team Real Top Prague promised to launch the entire event. Starting line-ups will be specified later on.

The “2008 Minutes of Floorball” marathon will not only support the WFC 2008 in December, but it will also be a starting shot for the charitable part of the floorball championship in the Czech Republic, the complete proceeds of which will be donated to the Czech Wheelchair Floorball Federation after the WFC 2008. Details are going to be released gradually; however, first money will jingle in the “wheelchair moneybox” already during the big floorball marathon — every goal will earn 2008 hellers into the moneybox.
We are therefore asking all floorball enthusiasts to take part with us in the “2008 Minutes of Floorball” marathon, whether as players, organizers, referees or just spectators! Final system of the marathon will be specified as per the response from the floorball public. The basic plan is that there will be a total of 33 one-hour “games” that will follow each other smoothly without any break. Of course, from the first to the last whistle there will be two MAIN TEAMS (their names will also be specified) playing against each other and consisting of individual “lines”, so the final score can reach very interesting numbers…!

If you are interested in participation in the 2008 marathon, apply as whole “lines” with the minimum of 7 players and one goalkeeper who will be able to play 30-50 minutes, and please specify the ideal time span when your team would be able to play one “period”. The assumed time schedule is from Friday 8:00 a.m. to Saturday 5:28 p.m. If you would like to play more than once in case there is an opportunity for that, or if you would even like to become a part of the so-called “standby line” that will play whenever needed, please let us know as well!

Throughout the marathon there will be a restaurant open in the sports complex Hamr Braník. For night participants of the event there will be one out of the four fields available for sleeping overnight, and all participants of the “2008 Minutes of Floorball” marathon participate in the event for free with only one possible reward — the opportunity of becoming a floorball world record holder!
